Sex and the not-so-exciting city

Bradshaw’s Thirst for Human Drama.

I watched a couple of reruns of Sex and the City last week, from seasons 3 to partly 6. I didn’t have the moral fiber to finish the series up to its last episode.

Years ago I was a sucker for these 4 Manhattan women. I think I actually lived and inhaled their beliefs and mantras. It was all rational –from the endless discussion of men, multiple theories regarding relationships, awkward debates about sex to who came first? The chicken or the egg?– until you start to watch the whole show again.

I realized Carrie Bradshaw was a complete sucker for drama. If there’s conflict in her life, she complains. If there is no conflict in her life, she whines. I guess I have to agree with Time magazine’s statement for you, Ms. Bradshaw:

“Will nothing ever make you happy?”

When I first saw that statement I was like “What the hell are you saying?!” Tonight I have a totally different opinion. When Carrie was dating Mr. Big, she bleats about how insensitive and numb her partner was. She couldn’t even get over the fact that he’s not ready to introduce her to his mother yet.

When Carrie was dating Aidan with all that you could ever ask for a partner and a lover, I might add. She grumbled on how EVERYTHING IS PERFECT. That such thing could not exist because it’s too good to be true. So, she decided to have an affair and cheat on Aidan with Mr. Big.

Cruel, right?

It doesn’t end there, though.

Months after the ugly break up and farewell to Aidan, Carrie was determined to get him back after all. You know the story, the guy forgives her, takes her back, and they live happily…for a time being.

Subsequent to forcing Aidan to forgive her affair, she said no to the guy’s marriage proposal and breaks his heart AGAIN.

Now, tell me if Carrie is not hungry for drama?

This ship has sailed. Stop making the series into a movie. A trilogy would be the worst mistake in Carrie Bradshaw history!
